    The reason probably more to do with the west eroding and supplying nutrients.

    Most likely not, as many places on Earth that aren’t considered fertile were covered in water during prehistoric times. More likely its related to the climate of the area. Things like rivers, the length of the growing season, and the chemical composition of the top soil all have more recent factors as the cause.

    Much more to do with 60+ million years of deposition as well as loess blown from the glaciers.
