Coverity, the leader in improving software quality and security automatically, has introduced a sophisticated new concurrency defect detection capabilities in Coverity Prevent™, the company’s flagship static code analysis solution for C/C++ and Java. This new technology introduces the first static defect detection of race conditions, one of the most difficult to find concurrency errors that occurs in multi-threaded applications. This new capability will benefit developers by automatically identifying race conditions in addition to other concurrency defects early in the development cycle where they are most cost effective to eliminate.

“To remain competitive, software companies need to support multi-core hardware, which will make multi-threaded applications inevitable for most developers,” said Theresa Lanowitz, founder of Voke, a technology analyst firm. “The challenge for developers is that multi-threaded applications add complexity to the application lifecycle, requiring new expertise and technology to maintain application quality and security.”

Race condition defects have been responsible for some of the most notorious failures in software. For example, race conditions in the software of the Therac-25 radiation therapy machine were cited as contributing to the death of five patients. Race conditions were also a contributing factor in the North American Blackout of August 2003, during which 50 million people lost power.

The advent of multi-core hardware, whether computers from vendors such as AMD or Intel, or consumer goods such as the Sony PlayStation 3, are driving the emergence of multi-threaded software applications that are susceptible to race condition defects. To take advantage of multi-core hardware requires new, multi-threaded applications that can simultaneously execute multiple, interacting computational tasks.

Designing multi-threaded applications is highly complex, and introduces a new class of potential application failures when the intricacies of concurrently running threads are not handled properly. To date, testing for concurrency defects such as race conditions has been extremely difficult due to the complexity in run-time environments where multiple threads execute simultaneously while accessing shared memory.

The latest release of Coverity Prevent introduces a new interface designed specifically to help developers understand the complex interleavings that exist within their multi-threaded applications. New advanced analysis capabilities in Prevent provide analysis of 100% of these interleavings, delivering unmatched insight into complex code bases.

Coverity Prevent helps developers control the complexity of multi-threaded applications by automatically identifying these hard-to-find, often crash-causing concurrency defects such as:

• Race Condition – Multiple threads access the same shared data without the appropriate locks to protect access points. When this defect occurs, one thread may inadvertently overwrite data used by another thread, leading to both loss of information and data corruption.

• Deadlock – Two or more threads wait for a lock in a circular chain such that the locks can never be acquired. When this defect occurs, the entire software system may halt, as none of the threads can either proceed along their current execution paths or exit.

• Thread Block – A thread calls a long-running operation while holding a lock thereby preventing the progress of other threads. When this defect occurs, application performance can drop dramatically due to a single bottleneck for all threads.

“Coverity has been helping our customers eliminate concurrency defects in multi-threaded applications for years, and we’re excited to expand those capabilities by adding race conditions to the list of dangerous defects we identify,” said Ben Chelf, chief technology officer of Coverity. “Race conditions are particularly difficult for developers because they are hard to test for, nearly impossible to replicate, and the consequence of a race condition in the field can be disastrous – Coverity’s new technology overcomes all of these challenges and helps developers eliminate this painful defect type.”

A new white paper available explains more about Coverity’s breakthrough application of static analysis to detect race conditions. The paper is available in for download at: http://www.coverity.com/html/library.php

stock option calls
Stock options are important investments to consider when you are building wealth in the stock market. The most basic definition for a stock option is a contract that allows an investor to purchase or sell a specified stock at a specified price, within a specified amount of time. Employers commonly give stock options as asset based compensation, and investors buy and sell options on the stock market to gain capital. Every stock option is characterized by the name of the stock, the strike price, the option contract expiration date and the price that was paid for the contract.

Basic Terms:

Call Options- these give the owner the right to buy a stock at a specified price, within a specified amount of time. Investors who buy call options are hoping that the stock value increases before the option expiration date.

Put Options- these give the owner the right to sell a stock at a specified price, within a specified amount of time. Investors who buy put options are hoping that the stock value decreases before the option expiration date.

Strike Price- the price that the option can be bought or sold at.

Options Investor Types: Buyers of Call Options, Sellers of Call Options, Buyers of Put Options, Sellers of Put Options

There is an important difference between the investors who buy and investors who sell options. Investors who buy puts and calls have the choice to exercise their option contracts. Investors who sell puts or calls have the obligation to exercise their options contracts.

The price of a stock option must go above the strike price for investors to exercise and make a profit on call options and the price must go below the strike price for investors to make a profit on put options. When options fall into these ranges, they are called “in the money”.

Options can be used for a wide range of trading scenarios, such as:

-Reducing your risk from stock ownership

-Generating an income from stock you already hold

-Speculative trading in an up or down market

-Multi leg option strategies to take advantage of specific market action

-Volatility based strategies to take advantage of market volatility even if you do not know which way the market will go.

While is it true that options take some time to understand and to master, most people agree that once they have spent the time to properly educate themselves about options, that they are much better off for doing so.

Many stock traders I know, once learning about options have never traded a single stock again. They can make more money, and take less risk by using a properly structured option strategy.

So if anyone is still on the fence, it’s definitely worth taking the time to learn about options.

The expression “Blue Stocking” is not referring to the colour blue. Female Academics might get offended by this term because it is a pejorative term.

To continue in the lighter vein, stockings can be described as a garment covering the foot and lower part of the leg but not mainly intended to cover the whole leg! In the ancient days stockings were made of cloth unlike the present day varieties of cotton, nylon, knitted wool and silk. Half-stockings, also called socks cover only the foot and part of the calf.

Pantyhose or tights are quite distinct from hold-ups which are also a type of stocking which stays up on their own while normal stockings need a suspender belt.

Thigh high stockings are preferred by many due to its aesthetics, more ventilation and less seat, reducing challenges from fungus and bacteria and other ease of use particularly in the toilet.

A Fashionable and convenient way to wear a stocking is to wear panties over the stockings.

Modern stockings are designed in various styles in a broad variety of colours.

If you are fashion shy then avoid the sparkle print tights stockings with interwoven silver Lurex threads which make them sparky and shiny.

The endless list of different style and designs include Crocket Garter, Lace Body, Lace garter belt, 5″ Lace Top with Opaque Stribe, Back Seam Garter. Back Seam Garter. Back seamed, Back seam with European heel and finishing hole, Beade and Biker zipper stockings and many more.

Improper stockings can break or make an outfit. While wearing a dark dress, dark stockings/hosiery is the best choice. The other alternative colours are charcoal or navy. Flesh colored stockings are fairly safe with almost all outfits. Try for invisibility and sheerness when selecting a stocking.

If you want to feel different and make a bold statement, then select a wacky pattern with bright colours. You should also note that these designs and style are not suitable for job interviews, weddings and for first dates!

Where is my spa cover? Ever have to ask yourself this question after a wind storm? I have had people tell me they have found their cover a quarter mile from their home. I do not know how they knew it was their cover. Maybe in some parts of the country people write things on their spa covers to help them recover them after a storm. I suppose you could write, If Found Please Call, on the bottom. Maybe, Hope This Spa Cover Did Not Land On Your Sister.

Personally I think it might be time for a different type of spa cover. I found a posting on a spa cover dealers website claiming that they had several covers that made it through Hurricane Katrina. That is a little like saying there were some calvary survivors after Custers last stand. There is a big difference between having some going undamaged and having no losses.

The question to ask is are they selling anything different? So far I have found stronger straps as their solution. Well you could build a solid roof that attaches to the spa but in case you did not notice solid roofs were flying right off houses. The answer is not stronger tie downs for the wing you use to cover your spa but get rid of the wing.

Find a design that does not offer a rigid surface for the wind to lift on. The reason rigid foam spa covers fly is that they make a good wing. Our armed services fly planes with less aerodynamics than the typical rigid foam spa cover.

What causes a spa cover to fly? When wind comes at the spa, some of it hits the side of the cabinet and has to go around. As the air is pushed around the spa it some of it goes up over. As it breaks over the top of the rigid foam cover it starts a little ripple or swirl action that begins to **** upward on the rigid surface. Like when your riding in a convertible, if you have hair like I used to, it does not blow backward like you expect but forward because of the windshield diverting the air flow. If you had no windshield your hair would be blown straight back. This swirl action pulls the foam cover up off the spa.

It does not need to move it very much, just enough to create enough of a gap for some of the air to get under the cover. The second reason rigid foam spa covers fly is they have a nice air space between them and the water surface they are supposed to be keeping warm. Once air starts to flood into this air space it creates pressure. The air rushing in can not push down on the water so it takes the only thing it can move, the spa cover. Once this action starts it is only a matter of what velocity is required before lift off occurs. The first movement of the flying spa cover is straight up.

The pressure in the space between the water of the spa and the bottom of the cover pops the cover straight up. It takes a lot less force than you might think because it is lifting on the entire bottom area of the rigid foam cover at once. Even a saturated rigid foam spa cover that is too heavy for one person to lift will fly when the air is pushing on the entire bottom surface. Once a heavy spa cover gets airborne watch out because anything it runs into is going to get damaged.

So are these spa cover dealers offing anything different? Are they offering a spa cover that is not designed like a wing? Are they selling a spa cover that does not require straps and truck ratchets to secure it to the spa? I propose looking for a different kind of spa cover.

The internet has put the world at your finger tips. Instead of settling for the same old thing, shop the web for a design that makes sense. Look for a design that does not use a rigid foam board resting across the top of the spa. A better design would rest right on the water surface first because the water is what you intend to keep warm and second because this would remove the void that would build up pressure to pop the cover off. If the flexible and dome shaped rather than flat and rigid it would resist lift and deflect even the strongest winds. If you are tired of worrying about your spa cover every time the wind blows, you owe it to yourself to find a better spa cover.

stock option calls
An Option Agreement is an agreement between two parties that provides one of the parties with the right, but not the obligation to buy, sell or obtain a specific asset at an agreed upon price at some time in the future. One common type of option agreement is a written outline that provides the details of an employee’s ability to obtain stock options. Several key aspects must be addressed in any Stock Option Agreement. For one, the exercise price should be listed. Second, the expiration date of the options must be provided. The vesting schedule should be provided. The agreement should also provide that the options are not transferable.

The most important part of an Option Agreement is that the optionee is not committed to purchasing the shares at a certain price or at a certain time. As the word suggests, the optionee has the choice to buy or not to buy. As long as the optionee provides the company with adequate consideration, this option contract is perfectly valid and enforceable. Generally, the consideration provided by the optionee is the optionee’s services to the company by way of his or her employment.

The drafters of a Stock Option Agreement must be sure that the transaction comports with all applicable laws promulgated by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), most importantly the reporting and liability provisions of Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. These rules prohibit an optionee from selling, transferring, or otherwise disposing of any of the common stock underlying the exercised options during the six (6) months immediately following the grant of the option. In fact, the agreement itself may place even stricter limitations on transfer of the stock in an effort to curtail the risk of insider trading. Also, the employee must acknowledge that his or her decision to execute the Agreement was not based on any oral or written representation as to fact or otherwise made by or on behalf of company, and was only based solely upon a review of publicly available information.

The company’s purpose in granting stock options to an executive is to motivate the executive to work hard towards the company’s growth. This purpose is undermined if the executive optionee is allowed to sell his stock immediately after exercising the option. Thus, it is reasonable to include a holding period whereby the stock cannot be sold, transferred, or otherwise disposed of.

A valid Stock Option Agreement must adequately address these legal issues and further cover in detail the representations and warranties made by each party. If the necessary language is included, a stock option agreement is valid and enforceable once executed by both parties.

Four color printing is an all too familiar sight to you. You can see colorful magazines, brochures, catalogs and posters, all of which are lavishly smothered with colors.

Four-color process printing is a procedure combined with offset printing commonly used in commercial printing. It creates high-volumes of quality, varicolored prints at the most affordable prices, at the shortest turnaround times.

As any client who wants the best possible prints, you may have once, twice or even thrice thought about what goes on in your prints. What are the best paper stocks or card stocks there are?

Paper stocks or card stocks are just as important as any other element in printing. It is through quality paper stock that ink sits well. It is quality paper stocks that hold your prints for a long time, with its thickness, strength and durability.

What exactly are paper or card stocks?

Paper stocks or card stocks are the paper or card used by the printing company. It uses this stock for a lot of printing products.

Misconceptions

Some people fear that such paper or card stocks are of poor quality. On the contrary, professional printing companies have access to high-grade paper and card stocks that allows them the liberty to use it for your prints.

Their access and transactions with various suppliers allows them to get the best quality stocks at the best possible price.

Some people, again, fear that with the limiting paper stocks provided for printing companies, it is always best to use specialty papers. Aside from the paper stock, other elements that go into printing can make and shape your prints into something unique. Matter of fact, they are always unique.

But if you persist in using a rare kind of paper for your printing project, it is best to know the risks that you might run into.

1. Four-color process printing is calibrated to every paper stock used in printing. So that whatever the paper or card stock used, the print colors and quality are consistent. With an unfamiliar paper stock, you might risk these for your prints.

2. Colored paper or card stocks are all the more challenging. Inks are semi-transparent even if we see solid and bold colors on prints. If a cream colored paper stock is used, the yellows of your prints might become more intense, and so, you would still have to balance it out.

3. If you print on an uncoated paper too, the ink will seep into the paper producing dot gain. This is where the halftone dots will spread.

4. Paper stocks, especially dark colored ones, can become overpowering such that your print design might get swallowed up. The inks will end up competing with the paper and not working together with it.

If you truly want to see how your prints would fare out using your paper stock of choice, you request for your printing company to give you a hardcopy proof, printed on your paper.

Also, it is more plausible that with such complications, it may become even harder for a printing company to print your design offset. This makes digital printing the only available option, albeit, an option with a steeper price tag.

For truly astounding prints, it helps to scrutinize which paper stocks are used by your printing company of choice, so you can verify if they are truly of high-quality. 100lb Text are the thickest and heaviest paper. 100lb Cover are used for brochures and has, let us say, body to it. 14pt. Cover stock are thick and durable, used for business cards and postcards.

These are just some of the paper and card stock used by printers. After all, four color printing works best with premium paper and card stock. Choose a printing company who can give that combination and your printing will all be worth it.

I’ve photographed a ton of money over the last thirty years.  I have photographed money coming out of faucets, being thrown in the air, squeezing through an hourglass, covering a planet, as jigsaw puzzles and serving as a flying carpet. I have PhotoShoped money trees and coins exploding out of piggy banks.  I have made pictures of money being stretched, filling shopping carts and being raked into piles. I have pictures of money on trees, pictures of piles of money and pictures of stacks of money. I have pictures of money from around the world including, English pounds, Italian Lira, Japanese yen, German marks and, of course, Euros. Heck, I have even created an animated stock footage clip of “raining money”!

The first stock photo I ever created using Photoshop was a picture of money…flying through the sky on egret wings.  As a matter of fact, seventeen years after I created that stock photo it was used on the cover of Time magazine!  It took me two days and ton of work to create the flying dollars.  I was using Photoshop 1.0 on a Mac II computer.  Just rotating a 30megabyte file took 40 minutes!   I could do that image now in an hour at most.  Back then I had to have a color separator scan the files and that cost $80.00 per file.

I had photographed Snowy Egrets in the wetlands of Marin for brochure advertising a new housing development.  I photographed a hundred dollar bill and had that, and a stormy sky, scanned as well.  Back then I had no clue about clipping paths, if Photoshop even had clipping paths back then.  There was only one level of undo and no layers at all.  Selecting the dollar was done with the lasso tool and cleaning up the selection seemed to take forever.

A number of people told me that professional work could not be done with Photoshop, and even more told me I was getting into it too soon.  But here we are 18 years later; the image is still selling, and, as I pointed out, even ended up on the cover of Time!

When it comes to money be sure and check what the legalities are in your country.  Here in the U.S. the following regulations apply:

Authority: 18 UNITED STATES CODE; 504: Treasury Directive Number 15-56 FR 48539 (September 15,1993) 411.1 Color illustrations authorized.

(a) Notwithstanding any provision of chapter 25 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, authority is hereby given for the printing, publishing or importation, or the making or importation of the necessary plates or items for such printing or publication, of color illustrations of U.S. currency provided that:

1. The illustration must be of a size less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half, in linear dimension, of each part of any matter so illustrated;

2. The illustration must be one sided; and

3. All negatives, plates, digitized storage medium, graphic files, magnetic medium, optical storage devices, and any other thing used in the making of the illustration that contain an image of the illustration or any part thereof shall be destroyed and or deleted or erased after their final use in accordance with this section.

Having said that, I never have paid attention to the rules…I have just shot what I wanted (hope I don’t write my next article from a cell).  Maybe these are rules that the people who reproduce the images have to worry about more.

When shooting dollars it is a good idea to phone ahead to the bank to make sure that have enough clean new bills.  More than once I have shown up at a major bank only to find that they didn’t have enough fresh bills for my photography needs.  Now I always phone ahead.  Banks have certain days on which there new bills are delivered.

It can take more money that one might think to capture great concept pictures of dollars.  To shoot a shopping cart full of money I first filled the cart with crumpled paper, and then spread a thin layer of one-dollar bills over and around the “filling”.  It took every one of my 2,500 one-dollar bills!  Even then there will still some small gaps that I had to fill with Photoshop.

Some day I am sure all of my stock photos of money will either stop selling or fall to a trickle.  That will be when the U.S. finally decides to come out with paper currency as colorful as the currencies of the rest of the world.  Oh well….

u covers have become the big craze these days, and for good reason. Truck bed covers give you the option of having the extra storage space your truck provides, while maintaining the look of a sharp truck. In addition, tonneau covers have actually been proven to increase gas mileage while protecting your possession from the elements. These features have made them among the most popular automotive products available today.

However, with increase in demand has come increase in production. There are now hundreds of available tonneau covers for all kinds of trucks. With so many options, it can be hard to find the right tonneau cover for your truck. When this situation arises, I normally recommend that a customer look at the different categories of tonneau covers available, and make a decision based on which category of tonneau cover will best fit their needs.

There are basically six categories of tonneau covers, ranging in price, ease of use and installation, protection capability and durability. These categories are hard top tonneaus, soft roll up tonneaus, hinged tonneaus, retractable or roll top tonneaus, tool box tonneaus, and cross bow tonneaus. Hard top tonneaus are secure and durable. They include a strong yet lightweight and flexible automotive grade vinyl top mounted into a rigid aluminum frame. This set up creates extra security while resisting scratching, chipping and fading. In addition, hard top tonneaus offer great accessibility, as they do not interfere with the tailgate so you can load small packages or equipment without opening the tonneau. Customer favorites include the HardTop 4-way Tonneau Cover, with a patented design that allows you to open it four ways, the Roll-N-Lock Tonneau Cover, which easily retracts into a canister at the front of the truck bed, and the Pace Edwards BedLocker Tonneau Cover, which has an electric motor and cargo light that can be operated by remote control. Hard top tonneaus start at $598.99.

Soft Roll Up Tonneau Covers
Soft roll up tonneaus offer the protection of a hard top tonneau with the versatility of the old-school soft variety of tonneau. Soft tonneau covers are made of a durable yet flexible tarp fabric designed for ease of installation and low weight requirements. Customer favorites include the Lund Genesis Tri-Fold Cover, with its unique folding design and simple 2 minute installation, the Extang Tuff Tonno III, which offers the world’s strongest tarp attachment and special “peel and seal” edging, and the Access Roll-Up Tonneau Cover, which includes a reliable side-sealing system designed to create cover tension from front to back for a tight, secure fit. Soft tonneaus are much more economical, and start as low as $169.99.

Hinged Tonneau Covers
Hinged tonneau covers offer an unchallenged ease of access to your truck bed space with minimal effort. They lift easily upward at an angle to allow you to quickly and easily access your truck bed. Hinged tonneaus include heavy-duty vinyl covers and tubular supports for one hand lifting. Customer favorites include the Undercover Tonneau Cover, with its easily installed VersaCover and strong patented GELOYTM plastic compound cover, the Lund Genesis Hinged Tonneau Cover, which includes heavy-duty gas struts for easy one-hand opening, and the Seductive Hard Top Tonneau, which displays an innovative 3-way rotary latch system for consistent latching every time. Hinged tonneau covers are also among the more affordable, starting as low as $279.99.

Retractable Roll-Top Tonneau Covers
Retractable roll-top tonneaus are great for those who want the hard cover type of tonneau, without the hassle of having to lift the top. Roll-top tonneaus feature a durable canister that mounts at the front of the truck bed allowing the tonneau cover to easily retract into it. Customer favorites include the Roll-N-Lock Tonneau, with its unique one piece clamp-on track system and integral bed rail gasket, the Bak RollBak Tonneau Cover, which lines the rails with ultra high density polyurethane for smooth gliding, and the Pace Edwards Roll-Top Tonneau Cover, which includes a convenient easy-to-install top. Retractable Roll-Top Tonneau Covers start as low as $589.99.

Tool Box Tonneau Covers
Tool box tonneau covers are specially designed to fit your truck with your toolbox installed. These tonneaus are a favorite among customers whose trucks are used as both street and work vehicles. Tool box tonneaus feature roll out bars, bows and cover to allow easy access to your tools. Customer favorites include the Extang Toolbox Tonno Cover, with its easy pull to disengage your tail rail for bulk hauling, and the Access Tool Box Edition Tonneau Cover, with protection capabilities perfect for contractors, construction, farms and other commercial uses. Tool Box Tonneau Covers start as low as $389.99.

Cross-Bow Tonneau Covers
Cross-Bow style tonneau covers create the older look of original tonneau covers with the support and durability of the new class. These tonneaus have bows that run down the bed to support the cover and retain that classic tonneau look. In addition, classic tonneau covers are perfect for the price-conscious customer. Customer favorites include the Lund Genesis Seal & Peel, with its specially-engineered cover and rails and unique adhesive seal, and the Lebra Glow Tonneau, which emits a high impact “Glacier Glow” color for maximum lighting. Cross-Bow tonneau covers are also the most affordable style, starting as low as $169.99.

As you can see, there is a lot to consider when purchasing the correct tonneau cover for your truck. However, this is necessary when taking into account the large number of quality tonneau covers on the market today. I always recommend taking time to compare and decide, as a tonneau cover is a purchase that can last a lifetime.
