stock option calls
The concept of Stock option trading was introduced in the 1970’s, and it became popular in 1980’s. However the market losses of 1990 caused a stop in this type of trading, the recent concept of electronic trading (online trading) made them again popular to the public.

Stock options are options, which use stocks as the fundamental instrument. Like all types, the stock options can be defined using several related phrases that are unique to options trading markets. Strike Price, also known as Exercise Price, is a common word used to describe stock options.

Strike Price is the fixed price at which the owner of an option can buy (‘call option’) or sell (‘put option’) the underlying commodity. A call option and a put option is the right to purchase and sell 100 shares of a particular stock respectively.

It is not allowed to own puts or calls indefinitely. The expiration time ranges from one month to three years, and many points in time in between. These periods depend on which stock they represent.

There are a lot of risks coming with the stock options trading. One major risk is that the customer is obligated to trade in the strike price. That is, if a customer wants to buy the underlying stocks, he or she must do it on the strike price though the actual market stock price is lesser than that. Likewise, the customer needs to sell his stock at the strike price though the actual stock market price is far higher.

Out with old, in with the new!  That is the concept behind my concept stock photo “Wrecking Ball”.  But perhaps more importantly, the image is a good illustration of the fact that the “imagined” image can be more powerful than the literal one.  In stock photography I certainly believe it is true that “perception” is more important than “reality”!  I believe the viewer is more comfortable and more accepting of an image that fits their mental picture…and let’s face it…so many times reality just does not live up to what we picture in our heads.  Also, when a viewer sees an image and it matches their perception of something they can quickly, in their thinking, move onto the message…rather than using their subconscious process to fit the reality into their pre-conceived notions.  At any rate, in my experience, catering to preconceptions seems to work well in conceptual stock photography.

When I first decided to do this image I went to a demolition site in San Francisco and shot a few images.  It was, however, immediately apparent that the reality didn’t match my mental picture. What I had pictured in my mind as a wrecking ball was a steel ball on the end of a chain…smashing through brick and concrete as it swing laterally from the end of a crane.  In reality, it is a tear-shaped concrete device on the end of a cable usually being “dropped” onto a building…at least that is what I was witnessing as I set about shooting that demolition scene.  My “imagined image” was far more graphic and powerful than the real one.  I decided to go with the perception rather than the reality.

As I was walking back to my studio pondering how to create my image it occurred to me that a manhole cover might do as a wrecking ball.  Since I had my cameras with me I photographed one about a block from my studio.  I also photographed the sidewalk including a portion that was cracked.  Once back at the studio I set up an old rusty chain that had been gathering dust for some time in my prop room and shot that.  I scrounged up a brick and shot several angles of that too.  In my stock photo files I found some pictures of a simulated computer explosion I had photographed years before for a magazine cover. Shots I had taken of a freeway demolition (after the 1989 quake) provided the background. In short time I had all the parts I would need to create my new photographic reality.

To create the image I started with the wrecking ball.  I used the “spherize” filter in Photoshop on the manhole cover, a cover that had been worn smooth by years of traffic. The filter, at 100% turned the flat manhole cover into a steel globe.  I added a specular highlight by creating a new adjustment layer (Brightness and Contrast) and maxing out the brightness…then using the accompanying layer mask to isolate the layer effect to just one small hotspot. I repeated the process, this time darkening the adjustment layer and painting it around the bottom edges to provide an even greater illusion of roundness.  I used the pen-tool to create a clipping path around the outside of the ball…turned the path into a selection (with a one-pixel feather) and then inverting the selection before deleting… leaving only my new very “dimensional” “wrecking” ball.

I created another clipping path to separate the chain from its background.  After copying and pasting the chain into the image with the ball, I used Free Transform to size and position it…then used the warp filter for adding some curve to the chain…and the motion blur filter to add just a touch of movement.

The pen tool and clipping path again did the job for selecting the sidewalk, which, after pasting in, I turned into a crumbling wall by the use of layer masks “painting” the sidewalk in and out as needed.  The layer masks also worked well to “paint in” the exploding computer shots to look like dust and flying debris.  Finally, the same technique was used to add the bricks.  To integrate the whole image I used an adjustment Hue and Saturation control in an adjustment layer to give the image a sepia-toned look. That is how a manhole cover and a sidewalk become a much more powerful graphic than the real thing….

Though done many years ago, the image is a timeless one.  By creating images that match our “perceptions” rather than “reality” we can create stock images that have both more impact (OK…pun intended), and provide a longer revenue stream.  The best of both worlds!

Are you confused as to the question of how to deal with your incentive stock options? Or are you worried about owing a large amount of tax on options that you have not even exercised and do not have the cash to pay for it? Well, luckily, if you manage your affairs well and take on board some simple advice, you will be able to avoid owing too much tax on your stock options, and also postpone paying it until you have the cash to do so. Sounds complicated? Not necessarily so. In most cases, if you have a large amount of money tied up in stock options, then you should probably get some professional advice. Financial advisors can help you put together a strategy that maximizes the value of your options. This article is only intended to give you an idea of the steps that can be taken when tax planning with stock options.

First of all, you do not have to pay any tax owed immediately, if you do exercise your stock options. This is the case so long as you do not sell the stock you receive. If you exercise an option to buy some shares, then so long as you do not sell that stock, you do not have to pay any tax at that time.

The second piece of good news is that you can end up only paying 15 percent tax on the options when you do sell. This will apply if you hold on to the stocks for long enough to qualify for a long-term capital gain.

So things are starting to sound a lot better on stock options taxation. By postponing the tax owed until you sell the shares, you can avoid the hardship of having a tax fall due without any money coming in to pay for it. It is similar to the cases in the past where people received valuable paintings or other works of art in a will, and then immediately had to sell the painting in order to pay the tax that was owed on the inheritance. Also, 15 percent is quite a low rate of tax and it should also be remembered that this is the highest rate that can be payable on a long-term capital gain.

For more information, consult a qualified financial advisor. Financial advisors can help you better understand tax basics and tricks, and the withholding, reporting and filing rules governing your incentive tax options.

Our sales staff at MyBinding.com are commonly asked about the thicknesses of the binding covers that we carry on our site. Unfortunately, understanding the way that cover stocks are measured can be somewhat tricky since several different measuring standards are used. This article is designed to give you a quick overview of the different measuring standards used for the cover stocks that we carry.

* Most of the clear binding covers and poly binding covers available from MyBinding.com are measured in Mil’s (also sometimes referred to as gauge). At first glance, it might appear that this is a measurement in millimeters. However, one mil actually equals 0.001 inch. Thus a 10mil clear cover has a caliper measurement of 0.010 inches and a 19mil poly cover has a caliper measurement of 0.019 inches.

* The regency composition / leatherette covers that we carry are measured in points rather than mils. For instance, most of the regency composition / leatherette covers that we carry are rated as 17pt covers. Each point is equal to 0.001 inches (the same as mil’s or gauge). Thus the 17pt covers that we carry have a caliper measurement of approximately 0.017 inches.

* Most of the paper covers that we carry are measured in weights. For instance, GBC’s linen weave paper covers are made from 80lb cover stock. This measurement is the actual weight of 500 master sheets (25” x 38” in size for cover stocks). Depending on the type of paper you are using the weight is based on different master sheet sizes making it very difficult to compare weights of bond paper with offset paper or index stock with cover stock. However, to give you an idea, 80lb cover stock is approximately equivalent to 9.5 Mils, 90lb cover stock is approximately equivalent to 10 Mils and 100lb cover stock is approximately equivalent to 11 Mils.

When it comes to thermal binding covers many of our customers have asked us what the difference between standard thermal binding utility covers and the more expensive Prestige linen thermal binding covers. Both have linen weave backs and spines and can look very much the same. However, there are several things that set the Prestige Linen Thermal Covers apart from the utility covers. Here is a quick list…

* Available Sizes: Unfortunately, thermal binding utility covers are only available with spines 1/2” thick or smaller. These sizes fit the majority of users in the market. However, if you need a thermal cover with a spine larger than 1/2” you will need to look at the prestige linen thermal covers.

* Lead Time: Thermal Binding Utility covers are a stock item at Mybinding.com and are generally available to ship immediately. Prestige Linen thermal binding covers have a number of customizable options that are not available with the utility covers. However, since they do have the options, prestige linen thermal covers are made to order and take approximately 2 weeks to ship.

* Front Cover Options: Thermal binding utility covers are only available one way. They have a linen weave back and spine with a 6mil clear front cover. Prestige linen thermal covers are available with a number of different options for the front cover including: a plain linen weave cover, a clear 10mil cover, a 10mil frosted cover and with a plain linen cover with a window.

* Color Options: Although there is a fairly good selection of colors in thermal binding utility covers there are a few colors that are not available in utility covers that are available in the prestige linen covers. For instance if you are looking for grey linen thermal covers you will need to order prestige linen covers since they are not available in utility covers. Prestige linen thermal covers are available in Maroon, Blue, Black, White, Ivory, Green and Gray.

Both types of covers are fully compatible with all of the thermal binding machines that we carry. However, for many people, the thermal utility covers are perfect to meet their needs. They are less expensive and are ready to ship immediately. However, if you are looking for thermal covers in other colors, thicker sizes or with different front cover options you may need to look at our Prestige Linen thermal covers.

To succeed in the business of stocks, learning the stock market basics of the trade is essential. The stock market is a complicated game and knowledge is power when it comes to financial freedom.

The decisions you make can yield unlimited earnings or completely break your budget. While there is some level of gambling involved in the stock market, an educated trader will ultimately achieve success.

Prior to risking your hard-earned cash on the stock market, you need to recognize certain vital factors when deciding which company to invest in.

Consider these stock market basics to learn more about the company you want to buy into:

Check Out A Company’s Revenue

What is the actual amount of money the company makes? This total amount is referred to as revenue. While young companies in their early stages of development may not have much revenue to offer, other companies who have been in the market for a long time may use their revenues to cover costs and losses.

A Company’s Earnings Make A Difference

How much money does the company make? This amount of money is called a company’s earnings. Beside revenues, earnings may be used to cover expenses. Earnings are the extra money taken in by a company. Because investors investigate the earnings made by a company they want to purchase stocks on, the companies with large earnings have a distinct advantage in the stock market.

A Company In Debt Is A Bad Sign

How much money does the company owe? Debt is the money owed by a company, which can be represented in many different ways. When a company is in debt, the money they have will be used to pay up the debit. It is risky to purchase stock from companies in debt because the company is unstable which could result in them declaring bankruptcy.

A Company Should Own Property

What does the company own? The assets owned by a company, including business, money and stocks, are referred to as property. When you are aware of a company’s assets, you can better ascertain their position in the industry. When companies have significant properties under their ownership, it is safer to trust their background. Often people will immediately buy stocks from companies holding a major amount of assets because they are more secure.

A Company Should Show Financial Responsibility

How much does the company have to pay out and what are their total financial obligations? Each company has different financial obligations. When a company has few financial obligations, they are in less danger of getting into debt. Examine the liabilities versus the assets of a company to determine their financial responsibility. A company should have higher assets than financial obligations.

Gambling your money on a company you know nothing about is an unsafe and unwise decision. By simply reviewing the company’s background, you have all the stock market basics right at your fingertips.

To make sure your money is in the right hands, do your research about the companies you want to invest in.

stock option calls
While we may be talking about how profitable and consistent money can be made by selling options, some traders have popped the most fundamental but yet critical question on what type of options to sell.  Our context here refers to stock options, ETFs options or futures options.

Most options sellers may be familiar with the concept of selling options against equities which can include stocks or ETFs, but selling options against futures contract may be a totally new ground to them.  The basic principles may remain generally the same, but one must be aware of certain aspects which could make one more appealing or fearful than the other.

ETFs options work very much the same as stocks options. They are treated like just normal stocks except that while stocks can crash to zero value, the possibility of ETFs crashing to zero is extremely small, which I will not commit to saying zero.  Something very drastic must have happened to the market to cause this to happen since ETF like SPY comprises of some of the strongest companies listed in the exchange.  And for that reason, I generally prefer to sell put options on ETFs. Of course, that’s just my preference and I believe you have yours too.

I have heard of some traders who did options selling on stocks and I mean on big companies which failed.  Depending on the risk management approach that was taken, disastrous to the trading account could have been avoided or minimized then.

The risk associated with selling options on stocks may therefore be perceived as relatively higher and thus lead to a possibly higher margin.  Premiums obtained from selling stock option and future options differ.  Margin requirement from selling stock options can be 10, 20 times higher than the premium collected while that for future options can be just a few times higher.  The return on investment is thus viewed as better for doing options selling on future contracts.

Strike price consideration is also a critical factor when deciding between stocks and futures options.  For futures options, it is possible to sell very far OTM options and yet collecting a reasonable amount of premium for it.  However, for stock options, one would have noticed that after just a few strikes OTM, the premium to a miserable amount which might not be worth the risk to do so.

With a lower margin and possibility of getting a substantial premium for very far OTM options, futures options seemed a much choice than stocks options at this moment.  However, one must be aware that futures come with contract dates which they mature or expire.  They are unlike stocks or ETFs which one can hold upon assignment on the expiry dates.  Risk management for futures and stocks options selling hence differ.  Futures contracts like the E-mini S&P (symbol ES) also come with different contract dates, e.g., the September, December contract etc.  ES options expiring in the months of October, November and December are associated with the underlying future contract which expires in December.  Such knowledge can be important to a trader who is trading these options though the price difference between the various future contracts can be small.

Hope this article has been helpful to you if you are thinking of embarking on the futures options selling track.

Good luck!

Why Buy A Custom-Fit Car Cover? To help protect your investment and keep your vehicle looking show-room new. Keeping your vehicle covered with a car cover can:

• Prevent unsightly dents, dings and scratches

• Shield it against finish-destroying man-made and natural hazards

• Act as an excellent theft deterrent

• Put a barrier between your paint and damaging weather

• For the fifth car cover benefit visit AutoAnything.com for more details

Dents, Dings and Scratches Reference

There’s a certain feeling you experience when you discover that first dent, ding or scratch on your new vehicle. Unfortunately, they’re a fact of life and nothing short of covering your vehicle with reactive tank armor will truly prevent them. However, using a car cover adds a layer of protective padding to cushion against runaway shopping carts, absent-minded car doors or other blows.

Natural Hazards Guide

Birds, trees, dust. They certainly seem harmless enough, but without a car cover, they can inflict serious damage to your prized vehicle.

Our fine feathered friends seem to have impeccable aim when it comes to leaving their droppings on our vehicles. Outdoor car covers catch bird bombs before they splatter against your paintjob. Plus, the majority of outdoor car cover fabrics are not harmed by the droppings acidity outdoor car cover fabrics.

The shady spot under a tree may look like a welcome spot to park your vehicle. However, with nuts, berries, sap, pollen, not to mention the roosting birds, parking under a tree can wreak havoc on your vehicle. A car cover can help keep your vehicle cool, even in the sun. Or, if you do park under a tree, a car cover can safeguard your vehicle from the onslaught.

Your vehicle’s paint is only about 0.006 inches thick. Whether indoors or out, when dust sits on your paint it turns abrasive and causes minute scratches. By the time you notice them, it’s already too late. Both indoor car cover fabrics and outdoor car cover fabrics are designed to keep dust away from the surface of your vehicle.

Theft Deterrent Reference

Though it may only look like a thin layer of fabric, a Covercraft car cover can do an amazing job at keeping thieves away from your vehicle. Since time is crucial in not getting caught, thieves often pass by covered vehicles, which take longer to get into, and go after easier prey. And, if you add a lock and cable to your car cover, you will not only keep your cover secure, but your vehicle becomes even harder to steal.

Damaging Weather Guide

You don’t have to be a meteorologist to know that harsh weather can do a number on your vehicle’s finish. An occasional spring shower poses no real threat to your vehicle. However, seemingly harmless rain can find its way into tiny scratches or blemishes and start the corrosion process. And, acid rain – well, the name says it all. A water-resistant car cover will keep your vehicle high and dry.

Harsh UV (ultraviolet) rays and the intense radiant heat of the Sun can cook the color right out of your paint. A car cover is like sunscreen for your vehicle, blocking harmful UV light and preventing photo degradation. And, a lighter colored car cover will yield a reflective cooling effect.

It’s not the cold that gets to your vehicle’s finish – it’s the moisture and salt. These two corrosive cohorts are in cahoots to ravage your paint. Fortunately, a car cover can keep both these culprits away from your vehicle.

The fundamental advantages of custom-fit car covers

A custom-fit car cover is specially tailored to the lines of your vehicle. No detail is left unturned. Custom-fit car covers hug every contour of your vehicle and feature sewn-in mirror pockets, plus grommet holes for antennas.

On the other hand, low-quality universal-fit car covers are baggy and can slip, slide and rub against your paint, destroying your finish. Additionally, the poor fit allows the harsh elements to creep in at every gap and defeat the purpose of the cover.

The specialized cut of a custom-fit car cover is far and away the best choice to wrap up and protect your vehicle.

When deciding which car cover is right for your vehicle, we advise that you consider:

• Where you park and how often you use your vehicle

• The weather in your area

• What color is right for your vehicle and storage needs

Where You Park and How Often You Use Your vehicle

• When you park outside and cover up every day, you may want to choose a lightweight outdoor car cover that’s simple to use and easy to fold.

• For those who park in crowded lots or on streets with children at play and heavy pedestrian traffic, a thicker heavyweight outdoor car cover that provides some dent and ding protection is best.

• If you garage your vehicle and frequently cover and uncover it, a lightweight indoor car cover is ideal.

• Choose a heavier indoor car cover to keep your classic safe for long-term storage.

• A super-soft indoor car cover lets you pamper your “baby” and keep it safe and secure.

The Weather in Your Area

The ideal car cover for your vehicle is greatly influenced by your local weather. Many materials have been developed to deal with specific inclement weather conditions. Rainy parts of the country like the Pacific Northwest and Deep South would demand an outdoor car cover with exceptional water resistance. The coastal areas along the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico need a car cover that will protect from and last in salty air. In the sunniest zones of the country like the desert Southwest, a Weathershield car cover with extra UV and photo degradation protection and reflective properties makes the most sense.

Tips on What Color is Right for Your vehicle and Storage Needs

Car covers are offered in an array of colors, but picking the right hue isn’t solely a matter of personal taste. Here are a few tips and points of reference to help you with your choice:

• If you live in a sunnier climate, you’ll want a lighter colored fabric for outdoor storage.

• If you have a lighter colored vehicle, a lighter colored fabric is safer for your paint. Bright colors, although thoroughly, tested could bleed under certain conditions.

• If you’re looking for style, a vibrant color can lend your vehicle character or compliment its finish.
