Covered Calls-Writing Covered Calls

I am starting to learn about options trading. I am confused as i look at covered call writing examples. Why would I write a covered call that is already in the money?

I buy and sell stocks and I keep all the data in Yahoo Finance. I also write covered calls sometimes and I have yet to figure out the best way to record those transactions in Yahoo Finance so it shows up properly in the transactions page.
